Dear Students...
While the projects are very exciting and rewarding, they are time consuming and require a great deal of organization on your part. Please remember the following:
* NOTE: Some organizations may require permission letters from the school in order to confirm the validity of your request. Should this need arise, feel free to contact your Projects Coordinator they should be able to assist you. Please be courteous and give them at least 48 hrs notice, along with:
That way you will ensure that he/she is able to help and that all the required details are included.
- Your project should reflect your personal interests and connections to the topic of choice. Therefore, you should choose something that YOU are passionate about and will manage to remain committed to throughout the process.
- It is YOUR responsibility to seek meeting times with your supervisor. You must complete the IB required minimum of 3 meetings; however, I would encourage you to meet more frequently if possible - especially in the early stages of the project. It is also important that you demonstrate respect by arriving on time and fully prepared for meetings with your supervisor. If you need to reschedule a meeting, try to provide advanced warning - your supervisors are busy people!
- You are responsible for keeping your process journal up to date, and for ensuring that it ALWAYS accompanies you to meetings with your supervisor. At the same time, you MUST reference all your sources used during the inquiry phase, and consistently record them in the process journal using the MLA format.
- This guide is there to help you, use it! But if you still have questions, speak to your supervisor, the Projects Coordinator or the MYP Coordinator. Do not wait until the next required meeting, as you may find yourself running out of time.
- During the completion of your project, you may need to communicate with members of the external community or organizations. Ensure that you communicate in a professional manner, and address them with respect - it will encourage people to respond positively and you will be more likely to secure what you need from them.
* NOTE: Some organizations may require permission letters from the school in order to confirm the validity of your request. Should this need arise, feel free to contact your Projects Coordinator they should be able to assist you. Please be courteous and give them at least 48 hrs notice, along with:
- the names of the person and/or organization to whom the letter needs to be addressed
- the details of your request.
That way you will ensure that he/she is able to help and that all the required details are included.
Most importantly...
Embrace the opportunity, and have fun!
