Welcome
Dear Students,
Welcome to your MYP Projects journey! May this website serve as a guide as you embark upon this adventure of personal growth and discovery. Embrace the opportunity, commit yourself to the process, and you're bound to be pleasantly surprised by the successes, relationships built, and skills you develop. Who knows - some of you may even change the world?!
For those of you who are new to the International Baccalaureate (IB) system, the Community and Personal Projects form part of the foundation of the Middle Years Phase (MYP) Programme Model. In MYP Years 3 or 4 (Grades 8 or 9), schools may elect to offer the Community Project (CP) to their students. For schools that don't go up to MYP Year 5, it is compulsory to complete the CP. While ALL IB students who complete Year 5 (Grade 10), must produce the Personal Project (PP) in order to be issued with the MYP Certificate.
So why do you do these projects? Both projects aim to encourage students to make connections between their traditional subjects and the real world, or the Global Context/s, through the cycle of inquiry, action and reflection. The projects foster the development of important life skills (referred to as Approaches to Learning or ATLs) which will better prepare you for the challenges of the working world. Through the completion of these projects, you are given the opportunity to explore your personal interests, potential career paths, become active members of the community, and nurture the various IB Learner Profiles. Ultimately, preparing you for your future as a young global leader!
How will you know what to do? You will be assigned a supervisor with whom you will meet on a regular basis. Your supervisor is there to: question your thought processes, advise you about the requirements of the project, and help you to meet those expectations to the best of your abilities. The supervisor is a wonderful resource, use him/her! Alternatively, if he or she is not available, you are welcome to come and speak to your school's Projects Coordinator or the MYP Coordinator, but your supervisor should always be the first person you approach.
Remember - these projects are about you! While it is wonderful to have a supervisor to guide you, you also need to ensure that you are fulfilling your responsibilities as the student. Document everything you do from start to finish in your process journal: every meeting, all communications with group members or external parties, all research conducted, your thought process - it should all be recorded. At the end of the project, this journal is submitted alongside the completed product and counts for a large percentage of your final grade. Simultaneously, it is worth noting that Academic Honesty is of great importance; record all your sites visited, information sourced, surveys conducted, and images or songs used as you go along. Don't leave this part to the last minute, as many students then accidentally leave out some references, and it could result in failure of the project - which no one wants for you.
By now you are probably eager to get started? Use the step-by-step guide appropriate to your project in order to help you with the process. You will find this in a drop down menu, listed below your project title at the top of the page. Under this title page, you also have a tab for the timeline and exhibition details for your project. Stick to these dates, it is not possible to leave these projects to the last minute, they require a great deal of organization and planning.
We wish you all the best for your project!

UNEDITED TESTIMONIALS
From previous IB Students
This community project has been very valuable and cherishing experience that taught me a lot Bruno (Bora) Schild, SISD (on the CP)
… - We have learned many things from this project. Saeed Lootah, Ghassan Tayeh, and Mohamed Amine Bouchou, SISD (on the CP)
… - By the project I learned, how to be more organized, open-minded, knowledgeable, reflective and how to be more responsible. With the help of this project that do not procrastinate, do not leave everything until last minute. Overall, this project was great experience for me. There were many disappointments and problems, but there were some good moments as well. I am thankful to my PP coordinator, … and my supervisor because without their support my work would be poorer. Mariam Zurabashvili, New School - International School of Georgia (on the PP)
… - After I was done with my Personal Project I understood why it is called “Personal” because not only did I learn so much more on my topic and my community but I learnt a lot about myself and my capabilities. I also learnt to push myself to my limits and manage time wisely. Overall, it was great and I really hope I will never do it again (nothing personal, no offense). |
